Genital Herpes For Men
Friday, February 18th, 2011Say you meet the perfect person. You have chemistry, are intellectually compatible, and enjoy each others company. You then find out that they have genital herpes. It was contracted from someone the person was in a serious relationship with for a long period of time. Not a result of promiscuity. Would the fact that they have genital herpes make it so you would not consider being with them even though you are so compatible in every other way. Or would you not care?
Please keep in mind that there are ways to work around herpes. And that 25% of women have it (thats 1 in 4) and 20% of men have it. There is also a fairly large pool of people beyond these figures that are unaware they have it yet are still able to give it to someone else.
So, if you were to meet your perfect person and found this out how would you feel about it?
This came up in a discussion with a friend of mine the other day and I was curious to see how other people felt about it.
Answer away!
Well, you’ve quoted the stats yourself. If you have multiple partners in your life it’s a fairly safe bet that your going to contract it.
Having a good understanding of the illness before hand will certainly allow you to make such a decision with an open mind.
I have been with my girlfriend for five years. When we met she was not aware that she had the virus, it’s often much harder to tell in women. I contracted it and was pretty shocked but after learning about it I really don’t care now. After your first few outbreaks things really calm down. I take no medication for it and get maybe 1-2 outbreaks a year, which consists of a few pimples on my johnson (yes, I called it a johnson), they’re gone within a week…
As you see the illness itself is no big deal the problem is the public perception of it.
Edit>
To the person below, it’s your sort of ignorance which causes herpes to be such a social stigma. It’s spread via skin to skin contact NOT FLUID. As a result, the only really safe way to avoid it is to not have sex at all. Condoms often won’t stop infection unless of course you can find one large enough to cover your whole body. As a side note, oral herpes is more commonly known as COLD SORES. Many people carry the virus from nothing more than a romantic kiss.
