If your partner has a cold sore, it does not mean that she has Genital Herpes. It means she just has mouth herpes. Herpes is a localised infection – it stays in the place it was caught. So if you caught it on the mouth, only your mouth will ever be infectious and vice versa.

One more thing I would add, although your partner does not have genital herpes herself, herpes simplex one causes half of all genital herpes infections these days. In other words, though you cannot catch genital herpes if you have intercourse with her, if her mouth makes contact with your genitals you ARE at risk of getting genital herpes from her oral infection.

What can i do to control herpes outbreaks?

I had my first herpes outbreak in mid- March (I have type 1 Genital Herpes, I was tested and know its type 1). Since then I have had two mild outbreaks. I know the first year of having herpes is the worst but I really dont want to get outbreaks monthly like this.

genitally too – both I and my sister do – but it is still more likely to be an oral infection because more people have it on the mouth than the genitals.

Since you have never had any symptoms that you remember, and hsv-33 infection without a prior herpes infection is likely to cause some symptoms, that maybe makes it more likely that you have an oral infection caught in early childhood.

Am I being too paranoid about HIV?

Ok I’ve been really paranoid about having caught HIV the last couple of days. About 5 months ago I gave and received oral sex with a female at a party. I’m male. I have only had one sexual partner aside from this and it was a serious relationship. About a week and a half after that I got really sick with high fever. I found a sore on my penis and was tested for everything. Turns out I have genital HSV-1 which is herpes. I’ve had a pretty tough time dealing with that. Lately Ive been paranoid about having HIV. My outbreaks from the herpes have been constant since my diagnosis. I have lost a few pounds. (I usually weigh around 170 and now I’m around 160) I read up on HIV symptoms and saw rash was a symptom. I do have what looks like a rash on my upper arms but I think I might have had it for a while. I also get sores in my mouth and I think I might have a yeast infection in my mouth. Is it possible that I have HIV? Please help I’m been getting myself so worked up.

All those symptoms does resemble that of HIV but it can be other things too, so you won’t know for sure if you have the virus until you get tested.

I was paranoid too. And, I recently went in and did a test, which was neg. But I did not have any of the symptoms but I was still paranoid. Getting tested is really the only way you will know for sure. Plus saying that you only had one sex partner and you had oral sex with one other person does not guarantee that you will be safe from the infection. ll it takes is one time.

I am sure you are just a little paranoid though, because the chances of you contracting HIV from oral is way less than by intercourse.

So stop fretting and go get tested!
